Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know If I am pregnant?

The most common signs and symptoms of pregnancy might include:

  • Missed period if you are in your childbearing years and a week or more has passed without the start of an expected menstrual cycle
  • Tender, swollen breasts due to hormonal changes. The discomfort will likely decrease after a few weeks as your body adjusts.
  • Nausea with or without vomiting which can occur at any time of the day or night.
  • Increased (more frequent) urination as the amount of blood in your body increases, causing your kidneys to process extra fluid.
  • Fatigue

Other signs and symptoms of pregnancy:

  • Moodiness due to the flood of hormones in your body in early pregnancy
  • Bloating due to hormonal changes
  • Light spotting, typically known as implantation bleeding, when the fertizilized egg implants in the uterine lining.
  • Cramping, usually mild
  • Constipation due to hormonal changes
  • Food aversions because you may become more sensitive to certain odors.
  • Nasal congestion due to increased hormone levels and blood production. You may also experience nosebleeds.

If you have missed your period and  have any of these other symptoms, you may be pregnant.  Request a NorthStar appointment today to get information about your next steps.

Can I bring someone with me?

At NorthStar WC, it is important for every woman to feel safe and supported.  You may bring a support person to your appointment.  For the safety of all women in the center, you will be asked to let us know ahead of time who will be accompanying you.  At the beginning of the appointment, you will be taken back to speak with your Advocate alone.  We will be asking questions for the purpose of providing the information you may not want to share the answers with your support person.  The staff at NorthStar will also begin the ultrasound with you alone to ensure that you have complete control of what information you wish to share about your pregnancy.  However, once you are alone with your Advocate, you may request to have your support person brought in at any time.  You are in control.  You are in the driver’s seat.

Children are always welcome at the center, and the staff understands that childcare can be difficult to arrange.  However, because of the nature of your appointment, a second adult must accompany you on your visit and supervise your little ones.  NorthStar WC wants you to be completely at ease for your appointment so you can get the information  you need.
